  1. Warm Up:
    • In the space underneath paragraph 7 on p. 214, write what Dolan means by "carry your own skis" and give at least two examples of how she learned to "carry her own skis" so far in the story.
    • Teacher will call on students to share.

2. "Carry Your Own Skis" p. 215-216 Paragraphs 8-13
  • Students should have their scan for vocabulary out on their desk while reading.
      • Continue reading, stopping to discuss and answer margin questions.
      • Write 1 summary sentence per paragraph in the left margin.
      • Teacher will call on students to share responses and summaries to check for understanding after each paragraph.

3. "Carry Your Own Skis" After You Read p. 217#1-4
    • Teacher will review instructions : )
    • In partners, complete the questions.
    • Share out to check for understanding.
4. Writing About the Big Question (Hand out to students)
      • Have students copy the synonyms/meaning next to each word of the Big Question Vocabulary for CYOS
      • Complete exercises A and B with partners.
